If there's one thing that all trucks have in common, it's their need to be cleaned, even if the cleaning jobs themselves tend to differ greatly. Here are our top eight pressure washing tips for fleet and truck cleaning.
Power Wash Tip # 1: Temperature
The warmer the climate, the easier it will be to power clean the trucks. During those cooler and cloudier days, you may find yourself needing to power wash a second time because the soap did not penetrate as quickly as expected.
Power Wash Tip #2: Prep for Power Washing
Create a preparation list to ensure an efficient fleet cleaning job, which includes detailing the following information:
- Type and quantity of fleet
- Frequency of cleaning
- Availability of water
- Wash water recovery system
- Wastewater recovery system
- Degree of cleaning required, which will influence the type of power washer you’ll need
- Inspection of the fleet for open windows, oil leaks and other pre-existing damage to the equipment
- Respecter les indications du manufacturier sur l’utilisation de produits chimiques ou autres restrictions possibles.
Power Wash Tip #3: Environmental Regulations
Always comply with environmental regulations concerning your wash water recycling system when it comes to fleet washing. Be sure to create a pressure washer with a water reclamation system where wastewater is collected and prevented from going into a storm drain.
Power Wash Tip #4: Equipment and Supplies

- Hot water pressure washer 60°C minimum with the capability of four to six GPM at 2000 to 3000 PSI, or

- Shorter wands for difficult-to-reach areas
- 40-degree nozzle
- 25-degree nozzle
- Downstream injection system for soap and brightener
- Contrôle de débit
- Low-pressure sprayer
Power Wash Tip # 5: Wash Site Selection
If you're planning on outsourcing the pressure washing job, always work with a company that understands local environmental regulations before selecting the chemicals and site for washing. Make sure you cover and follow governing laws for disposal via sewers or establish a system to collect wastewater and dispose of it according to local rules.
Fleet washing does require investment in a facility with wash bays and direct connections to sanitary sewers. At Unimanix, we’ve worked with fleet owners to set-up their wastewater filtration system. Contact us for more information.
Power Wash Tip #6: Fleet / Truck Washing Techniques - Single Step Fleet Washing Method
A popular washing technique is the single step method, where soap is applied under high pressure with heat, followed by a rinse.
Power Wash Tip #7: Two Step Power Wash Method For Fleet / Truck Cleaning
A fleet with an excessive amount of grime, grunge and faded aluminium will need additional cleaning. For aluminium brightening, start with an acid or aluminium brightener, followed by soap and then rinse.
If you are using soap that doesn’t remove road film, you may find yourself needing to hand brush with the soap, followed by a rinse.
Power Wash Tip #8: Cleaning Interior of Enclosed Trailers
Enclosed trailers are more aligned with tank cleaning and should follow regulatory requirements for safety and cleaning. Also, please note that if trailer trucks are used to move fresh food or anything perishable, regulations for this type of cleaning can be subject to recordkeeping that includes cleaning, sanitising, and inspecting transportation equipment.
